Are You Planning Your Family Holiday?

As the school spring half term and summer holidays approach, many families are gearing up for a family break.  This week on the Sunflower Zone Blog we are speaking with Sadie Geoghegan from Thomas Cook about family holidays.  Hello Sadie, welcome to the Sunflower Zone – Welcoming New Life.

Tell us about Thomas Cook family friendly holidays?

Our family holidays are designed with the customer in mind, providing you with all the ingredients needed for a perfect family getaway. Whether you choose Self Catering or All Inclusive, budget or luxury (such as Signature from Thomas Cook), you’ll find the perfect hotel to cater for your family’s needs, including family-sized rooms to give you plenty of space. We have a great range of hotels that are centrally located in large resorts or in quieter and more peaceful locations if you prefer it.
Our family friendly hotels have plenty of facilities to keep the kids entertained (and the big kids too!). For example, our Aquamania resorts have on-site waterparks and all our Sunwing Family Resorts are located either on or next to the beaches of popular holiday destinations. You might even spot our Kids Club mascots Lollo & Bernie, if you’re lucky!

What is your Kids Club and what type of facilities and activities do they provide?

Our Kids’ Clubs provide hours of entertainment for the little ones and is also the perfect way to allow you a bit of ‘me’ time too. They are open six days a week and offer a daily themed programme of fun activities. The youngsters in the Lollo & Bernie Kids’ Club can expect to enjoy fun action games, messy art and outdoor play; slightly older children in the Junior Clubs can enjoy a bit more freedom and plenty of action-packed sports; and the older kids in the Teen Clubs can enjoy sports, games and activities for older age groups, giving them great opportunities to make new friends and hang out together.  Everyone in our Kids’ Club teams is DBS checked and all our clubs are operated to standards of similar facilities in the UK.

What are the most family friendly resorts for 2015?

You’ll find some of our best family-friendly offerings in Menorca, Majorca, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Portugal – all of which are incredibly popular family destinations.

The cost of holidays in the school holidays can be almost twice the cost of the rest of the year, what is your opinion on this?

We are committed to providing our customers with great value holidays in a highly competitive market place. Costs across the supply chain, such as hotel charges and transfer fees, are inevitably subject to price changes in response to customer demand over the year. Most of these elements are beyond our control and we work very hard to minimise the costs that we have to pass on to our customers for holidays taken during peak seasons.
Thomas Cook fully supports the industry campaign led by ABTA – The Travel Association to encourage Local Education Authorities and Schools to use the powers they already have to stagger holiday dates by region to help reduce the pressures of peak holiday demand. This successful approach already works in many parts of Europe.
We continue to offer discounts throughout the year, including during peak periods, such as free child places and early booking discounts, as well as interest free credit once they’ve paid deposits until they pay the final balance.
As holidays outside of term time remain the most popular, we would advise customers to book as early as possible to take advantage of the fantastic deals Thomas Cook provides.

Do you have holiday resorts in the U.K for families?

Yes, Thomas Cook sells UK breaks through providers such as Hoseasons, Bourne Leisure, Superbreak and Shearings. Simply call us up or pop into your local store to book. You can also find great deals on UK breaks through our accommodation only specialists, Hotels4u.

If you could create a ‘Magical’ holiday that would be absolutely perfect for you, what would it be? (Let your imagination run wild!)

If it was up to me, I would go on one big, never-ending holiday. I would move around from place to place, chasing the sun, and would never see another cold, drizzly day again.
I’ve spent a lot of my time travelling to over 30 different countries and I have to say that some of my favourite destinations are offered by Signature from Thomas Cook. Places such as Asia, the Caribbean and North America. I would love to get in an old fashioned Cadillac and travel across America from California to Florida and then up the east coast. Florida is a dream destination for kids, so should be at the top of every family’s wish list!

What is your advice for parents of young children planning their annual holiday?

Each individual family’s needs are different. But I would say choose your hotel carefully, ensuring there is plenty to keep your children entertained, whether that be a kids club or multiple swimming pools and play areas. Personally, I think it’s great to be in a central location so that you don’t feel cooped up. That way you can get out and about and explore the local area, enjoying different shops, restaurants and attractions as you go.

Does Thomas Cook have any special offers on family holidays for 2015?

You will find great deals on Thomas Cook family holidays, many of which start from just over £100 per person. More often than not though, the earlier you book, the better deal you get. For example, early bookers can find holidays where kids can travel for just £1. There are still a handful of these deals left online!
